Conceptual Art, Comics and a Can do attitude
Kickstarter for I AM THE COMIC BOOK has seven days to go! Help me stick the landing!
Hello my friends!
I hope you are well! Just wanted to remind you that I recently launched my endurance comics project kickstarter for I AM THE COMIC BOOK which is going to be a weird, wild, ephemeral, promenade performance anthology project that I’m going to be doing for the coming year. It will be I’ll be commissioning 24 comics artists to do a three panel piece that I’ll be making into temporary tattoos and then wearing that on my arm and after they fade (in about two weeks) I’ll wear the next one. It is kind of a collaborative dada story game comic where in essence I am the comic book.
Thank you to all who have already contributed. I am 84% funded with 7 days left to go! So we're getting closer but I still need help to get me over the top and stick the landing! Any support or signal boosting would be so welcome so I can hit my goal! It got named a Kickstarter project we love!
Here’s a test run of the project that I did a few weeks ago with art by Mads.
I also started an instagram to document the piece once it starts in case you want to follow along and there will be a website. (Since who can trust social media being around in the future or something worth being on these days?)
Meanwhile, things have been moving along behind the scenes. In addition to the prologue and first chapter (episode? issue?) by Mads Skovbakke (who designed Maxi), three new pieces have come back by Allison Conway, Nate Powell and Chris Wisnia. The art looks amazing and they’ve been sent off to be made into temporary tattoos right now!
I am really loving this dada surrealist narrative game and that I'm getting to play with some of the greatest folks in comicsbecause I am such a fan of their art and of them. Some of the comics artists signed up to play in this exquisite corpse game are Nate Powell, Hope Larson, Leuyen Pham, Dan Santat, and Sina Grace to name a very few and recently two new brilliant artists have joined in the project, the fabulous Steenz! and Lisa Brown.
Thank you again in advance for supporting this dream endurance promenade performance project of mine. It’s something that I think pushes the boundaries of what a comic is, and is something that AI can’t do.
Here’s that Kickstarter link again which goes towards funding the project and pay the artists a fair rate. I think you will think it’s cool as well and I hope that you get to see it in the actual flesh! If you're going to be at TCAF (Toronto Comics Arts Fest) that's where the prologue piece will debut!
In other of my art news I’m in copy edits for my new graphic novel, working on a bunch of short stories (prose and comics) and gearing up for a workshop for the new Opera.
Love, Cecil
