Gratitude, gravity and grand plans

Hello my friends. It's been a while. I hope you are fine. So much has happened since I last wrote from Italy. Big life changes. First there was the big move to Canada in August and then my mama died a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been living in that very large space of grief. My mama Lise was an extraordinary person, beautiful, kind, intelligent, loving, artistic, radical. I learned everything on how to be good and live well from her. She was my mother, but also one of my very best friends. I loved that her and I traveled so much together, most recently at the beginning of October on an amazing family trip to Italy. Some of you have met her and knew how special and amazing she was. She was truly sui generis and I will miss her forever. I am utterly heartbroken.
Now I’m reigniting my life in Montreal and wondering what it means to live here without having the day to day life that I imagined I’d have with her. But I feel so very grateful for my wonderful papa Vincent and the hang outs that I am having with him and my brother Laurent. So slowly, while taking deep breaths, life forges forward. And what I do is I make art.
I AM THE COMIC BOOK has been moving along. I have even seen some of you and proudly shown you my arm. I am currently on Chapter Six, which is art by Jose Pimienta. So far, the artists have been Mads Ellgarde Skovbakke, Allison Conway, Nate Powell, Chris Wisnia, Hope Larson and Jose Pimienta. I have had a few new short things come out!
‘Smash the Patriarchy’ in Secrets from the Majestic. ‘After Taste’ in The Last New Dangerous Visions. And ‘Peer Review’ in Oni Press EC Comics Cruel Universe. I hope you’ll pick up those shorts and enjoy them and the other stellar shorts in those anthologies.
Also, it’s holiday times, so a reminder of some comics / books you can purchase and just might enjoy!
Meanwhile, I’m working on a couple of new books. More on that when I can talk about them! It’s all very exciting stuff.

You can come and see me at a few upcoming conventions! I’ll be I hope that I see you so that you can see the tattoo if it's fresh or in a state of decay. I'll be at the Salon du Livres in Montreal in conversation Sylvain Neuval at the Joie de Vivres Books Booth #1129 at 18:30 on Friday November 29th. I’ll be talking about SHIFTING EARTH which you can get on Dark Horse Comics. And I’m hitting Maui Comic Con in Hawaii December 7-8th. I’ll be sporting Chapter 7 of I AM THE COMIC BOOK at both places which is art by Scott Koblish. So be sure to swing by and look at my arm!
